Wednesday Site Visit

On my way to campus today I made a quick stop by the Visitor and Undergraduate Admissions Building's job site and made some very interesting observations.  The first thing I noticed upon exiting my car was the sound of a circular saw.  I then observed 3 workers working on the roof of the structure in one of the corners.  My guess was that they were in the process of placing expansion or control joints in the concrete .  The one observation that surprised me the most was that the workers were all wearing their PPE but were not tied off.  Additionally there was no railings or fall guards on that area of the roof, extremely dangerous considering that in the case someone tripped over some of the materials being used, they could easily fall off.
I also managed today to take a pretty good picture of the hangers used to hold the precast panels in place.
The two metal posts seen dropping down below the panel are part of the panels anchor system which would be anchored into the structural grade beam behind the gypsum sheathing.  This is an area which will require flashing to prevent water infiltration between the panel and Hokie Stone Veneer going up on the building.  I would think that the gypsum sheathing would also need a waterproof sheathing but it would not make sense to apply this after hanging the precast panel, for this reason I am led to believe this is waterproof gypsum sheathing.
